French toast is a classic breakfast. Whether you often make this or had it make for you at home or you’ve just had it in a restaurant, French toast is generally considered a delicious breakfast treat. And most people will have made it or watched it made at least one in their lives since it’s not generally hard to make and doesn’t require expensive ingredients. However, making it absolutely mouth-watering can be difficult to achieve, and there are tons of more complex variations than your simple bread dipping in seasoned egg varieties.
Despite both grilled cheese and French toast being breakfast and lunch favorites, most people would never consider combining them. But a French toast grilled cheese sandwich actually makes the perfect brunch. Check out the video below to see how to make this delicious and inventive treat, as well as what to top it with (hint: bacon is involved).
Doesn’t that look delicious? If the syrup seems a little much, you can always leave that step out, but I think most of us agree that bacon certainly makes everything better. If you want to keep the bacon, but not the syrup, just add some cooked bacon strips to the sandwich when you put the cheese on. Also, if you do use the syrup, I wouldn’t recommend just picking up a syrupy sandwich like shown in the video. It’s much better to treat it like French toast in that case and use a knife and a fork. Syrup is a pain to try getting off of your hands, and we aren’t toddlers anymore, right?
If you think this sounds too weird, give it a chance before you bash it. All sorts of things that sound like they wouldn’t go together actually have delicious tastes. For example, there isn’t much reason for bacon and chocolate to actually work (except that bacon makes everything better), but the combo is actually very tasty. Here are a few dozen more strange combinations that are actually good. Also, for those of you who just want some French toast without the grilled cheese extra, try these recipes.
