Aluminum foil. It’s a staple product for any home kitchen. We use it to line bakeware, to cover dishes, and to seal leftovers. It can be used in science experiments, for cleaning aids, and for lifehacks. Did you know a ball of aluminum foil made a good substitute for a dryer sheet? Aluminum foil is an essential element in every home and in every kitchen, and everyone uses it—from expert to an amateur.
However, expert and amateur alike will admit it is sometimes hard to deal with. The idea of aluminum foil seems genius: A thin sheet of metal wrapped around a small tube and put in its own box with its own handy cutter on one side. If only wrapping paper had that kind of handy built-in storage and cutting utility. Unfortunately, most people find one serious flaw when using aluminum foil.
So you have a nice roll of aluminum foil. It’s the perfect size for what you need, but when you go to pull it out of the box, the whole roll falls out. And you know you can’t just roll it neatly back up. The clean flat metal sheet gets all crinkled and uneven the second it leaves that machine-created roll. And don’t forget how trying to tear a sheet off while it is trying to come out of the box is a real pain too. However, there is a simple, easy, and built-in way to keep this from happening that has been right in front of you all along. Watch the video to find out what it is.
Is this technically a trick at all if you are just following the directions on the box? I’d say it is if following the directions is not the standard way of operating. If you feel a little dumb for not noticing those handy little push tabs that are clearly marked on the boxes, don’t worry.
You are not alone. Most people don’t notice them and feel just as silly for not noticing when the tabs are pointed out to them. It’s not exactly our fault really. There are so many labels and slogans on those boxes nowadays people tend to tune them out.
It’s no wonder most people don’t see tiny print on the small ends of a long thin box. However, now you don’t need to struggle with your foil any more!
Of course, if you hate dealing with foil rolls at all, there are actually pre-cut foil sheets you can buy. Ever wonder how bakeries, catering companies, and restaurants seem to be able to cut their foil exactly the same size every time? The trick is they don’t. They use these sheets! Of course, if you prefer the standard rolls, you can even buy those online now too. Amazon has quite the selection!
