A trip to the hardware was in order. New hardware was installed for the handles and hinges. The remainder of the cabinet was put back together. Now, it looks like it is almost done!
To help protect the cabinet, a litter mat had to be installed. This one had to be cut down to size to fit perfectly in the cabinet.
A shelf was installed in back to hold extra items. On the side, a basic nail was placed to hold the scoop. All of the amenities are now in place for a palatial bathroom.
With the amenities installed, the doors were put back on. Now, you cannot even tell that a litter box is there. From the outside, this cabinet looks like a normal cabinet. Inside, it is a hidden bathroom for furry felines.

The verdict is in: the cat loves it. If you were not watching closely, you would never notice her leaving the cabinet.
This cabinet is such a simple idea, but it makes a huge difference. Instead of having to hide the litter box in a closet, it is placed where the cat can easily reach it. Plus, the litter mat and contained area make clean up a breeze. Since the cabinet was purchased at a thrift store, the entire project was done fairly cheaply. All it took was some fresh paint, tools and hardware.
If you have the time, this project could easily be completed in a day. The longest part of the DIY project is painting. As you wait for the paint to dry, you can always check out the hardware store for creative handles. No matter what type of decor you have, you can blend this idea into the aesthetic of your home. Altogether, we think that this project turned out brilliantly. If you loved seeing the cat palace take shape, like us or share this project on Facebook.
